Boulder

It's been said that Boulder is 5 square miles surrounded by the rest of reality (although geographically it's actually 24.5 square miles), and it's said for good reason. Located about 35 miles northwest of Denver, Boulder is one of the few places you'll come across that has, collectively, a unique perspective on the world it occupies. Here you'll find an enormous diversity of people and culture come together, from the scientific community based out of one of many research institutes, to the college crowd of the University of Colorado at Boulder, to the esoteric genre of street performers down on the Pearl St. walking mall.
Boulder's winters are generally mild, and although large amounts of snow can fall, the effects of orographic lift usually dry out the air passing over the Front Range, sparing the city itself from precipitation for much of the season. Summer temperatures rarely hit the highs that Denver and other Front Range cities experience, making the climate in Boulder perfect for those not fond of extremes.

Outdoor activity is a way of life here, offering everything from world class rock climbing in nearby Eldorado Canyon, to biking and hiking the over 32,000 acres of open space surrounding town. Skiing and snowboarding are a short drive away and the Rockies offer the 3 most nationally celebrated mountains to enjoy your time on. Summer months bring art and music festivals, environmental awareness events and such locally loved traditions as Happy Thursdays, when you can break out your bike and hit the town after work.
